In the UK, the deal affects 950 Aker Solutions staff mostly based at Stockton, Portsmouth, Warrington and Whitehaven.
They join Jacobs’ UK based operation, which has grown steadily over the last decade to turnover around £600m, and now employs 7,000 staff in this country.
The Aker process and construction business will ramp up Jacobs’ marine and energy expertise and is unlikely to lead to any significant job losses in the UK.
Jacobs’ chief executive officer Craig Martin said: “We are acquiring solid businesses with a history of good performance.
“Additionally, the talented employees and strong client relationships align well with our relationship-based business model.”
The deal was sweetened as Aker Solutions UK team picked up a significant front end engineering design contract for major new storage facilities at Capenhurst in the North West for Uranco, the uranium enrichment company providing fuels for the nuclear industry.
The resulting build contract is likely to go to Interserve, which has worked at the facility for the last four years under a partnering arrangement.
Worldwide, the US engineering group Jacobs boasts sales of around $10bn and employs 50,000 staff, operating out of 160 offices in more than 20 countries.
