A consortium of social landlords in the north has named a huge line up of mainly trade contractors for their housing improvement and maintenance programmes.

Among the 98-firm mix of successful contractors, 80% were local small to medium-sized companies including 15% microsized companies.

More than 314 firms submitted pre-qualification questionnaires for evaluation, 230 of which were invited to tender.

The framework, which has an estimated £975m demand, has been developed by Efficiency North, a consortium of social housing providers in Yorkshire and the Humber region.

The firms have been split across west, east and south sub-regions to ensure that local SMEs had every opportunity to secure a place.

Efficiency North hopes to deliver annual expenditure and process efficiency savings of 10%.

Any surplus revenue accrued will be collected in a 4 Good Fund which can be accessed by authorities using the framework to fund projects which realise social and economic benefits in the local community.

Lee Parkinson, director of  Efficiency North, said: “We are delighted to have achieved such a diverse offer in the framework, with a mix of larger national players as well as smaller local businesses.

“All the  successful contractors demonstrated in their tender submissions that the improved certainty of  time, quality and cost the Elemental Works Framework aims to establish will be delivered.
