Traces of radioactive contamination have been found on the shoes of a number of workers preparing a building for demolition at Dounreay nuclear power plant.

Contractor DSRL said the contamination was detected when the operators prepared to leave the building.

A company statement said: “The building is in a ‘controlled’ area, where contamination is possible, and controls are in place to manage it.

“The area was isolated and follow-up surveys confirmed that the contamination was confined to a small area.  An investigation is underway.

“There was no harm to staff or the environment.”
