The scheme, which will provide improved access to the hospital and 958 additional car parking spaces, will cost a total of £16.4m.
Originally, a PFI model was to be used to fund the scheme. But the Trust will borrow the cash from the Department of Health and pay it back from income generated by retail and parking charges.
Blackpool Victoria Hospital’s new entrance will include a pharmacy, retail units, café, main reception, waiting area and office accommodation.
It will be the main hospital access point for most patients, visitors and staff, apart from those using the Emergency Department and the Delivery Unit who will continue to use present entry points.
Anthony Dillon, managing director for Willmott Dixon said “We are delighted to be working with the Trust, in delivering what will be significant improvements to the facilities at Blackpool Victoria Hospital”.
