The Enquirer tipped Balfour to win the scheme from Unite Students on Holloway Road in Islington last year.

Balfour will start on site this month to construct three main buildings that will provide 862 new student residences together with commercial space, reception areas, a plant room, common rooms and ancillary space.

The contract includes the demolition of the existing University facilities and student lecture rooms, the construction of an internal landscaped courtyard, amenity space and public realm works.

Balfour will support around 40 apprenticeships and employ local labour and supply chain partners during the project.

“Through our use of the latest innovative techniques, such as modular construction and Building Information Modelling, together with our integrated supply chain and proven ability to source local labour and companies, we look forward to delivering this project for our valued customer.”

Richard Simpson, Unite Students Managing Director of Property, said:  “The size and scale of this development in such a prime central location makes this a significant addition to our portfolio.

“Unite Students has developed a long standing relationship with Balfour Beatty over the last 14 years to provide high quality homes for students and with more than 350,000 students studying in the capital there is need for safe, secure and well managed student accommodation in good locations providing students with a home that supports their success.”

The job is due for completion in July 2016.
