Thirty-two concrete steel beams were due to be lifted into place near Catterick on Thursday and Friday as part of a new structure on the route which is being upgraded to motorway standard.
The Highways Agency said: “We will advise drivers of our revised timings once we have rescheduled the work.”
A joint venture of Carillion and Morgan Sindall is main contractor on the A1 Leeming to Barton scheme.
The full completed route is due to open to traffic in 2016/17 and the three year contract will generate 750 construction jobs.
