Betting Spy: Lucky builders bash the bookies

Coral bosses must have been tempted to put up the old “no hard hats or muddy boots” sign last weekend after construction workers took them to the cleaners.

Bookies made their heaviest loss in years on football coupons as a string of favourites came in.

Coral’s biggest winner was a 54-year-old builder from Plymouth, who netted £70,667, after placing a £5 bet on a 14-game football accumulator in his local shop.

A 58-year-old construction worker from Rochester scooped £30,454 after placing a £1 bet on a football accumulator, while another builder from the same area won £55,563 after he placed a £200 bet.

Elsewhere, a 60-year old retired builder from Ashford was celebrating a £30,000 windfall, while in Richmond, another builder landed £4,792 from a £5 bet.

Coral’s spokeswoman, Nicola McGeady said: “It was a weekend of absolute carnage for bookmakers, with the builders of Britain doing the most damage.

“Thousands of punters across the country have turned just a few quid into life-changing amounts of money, and it looks as if builders are the luckiest punters in Britain.”

Obviously the lucky winners weren’t regular Betting Spy readers after Man City sunk our treble for the second week running.

How’s your luck eh? Favourites fly in everywhere and the reigning champs do our dough.

If you want 14,000-1 winners best ask the Plymouth builder.

But as he’s probably still down the pub here’s a little treble to try and make a few quid back on the FA Cup.

Premier League sides start taking the cup seriously now so let’s concentrate on teams who feel they are out of a relegation battle and will be having a proper tilt at the tournament.

Swansea, West Ham and Stoke fit the bill so let’s take them to beat Blackburn, Bristol City and Rochdale at a shade under 7/1.

While I’m sat on my arse in front of Sky Sports wasting my cash, my wife is out training for the London Marathon.

If any of you lovely people out there fancy helping her raise money for the Red Cross then all donations will be gratefully received here

I’ll obviously be donating a decent slice of my winnings this year – but on current form it might be me needing charity handouts.
