The major scheme forms part of the £400m Wessex Capacity Programme, which will increase train and passenger capacity at London’s busiest station and across the Wessex Route over the next six years.
The successful joint venture includes Colas Rail and consultants AECOM and Mott MacDonald and will work with Network Rail in a risk and reward alliance.
As well as bringing the closed Grimshaw-designed international station back into use, platforms 1-4 will also be extended along with extensive alterations to the track, signalling and buildings on the Wessex Route and at Waterloo, Vauxhall, Clapham Junction, Richmond, Wimbledon and Surbiton Stations.
The expected cost is £100m more than first estimated because the scope of the Wessex Capacity Programme is understood to now include a Woking Grade separation works project.
