Eye-witnesses described the scenes on sites as “carnage” as suppliers downed tools and stripped out anything of theirs “that wasn’t bolted down”.
The Enquirer understands that Anglo Holt was working on 17 sites across the country – mainly for hotel clients like Travelodge and Premier Inn.
Staff were sent home from the firm’s head office in West Bromwich last Friday lunchtime and word soon spread across the industry.
One source close to the firm said: “Subcontractors had already walked away from some jobs because of not getting paid.
“But when word got out about head office all hell broke loose.
“It was carnage down on the sites with suppliers taking back anything that wasn’t bolted down.”
Telephones at the head office have been on answer machine since Friday.
A security guard said: “We have been getting a lot of calls and all I can say is that an announcement is due to be made within the next couple of days.”
Anglo Holt Group and Anglo Holt Construction are both registered at the West Bromwich address.
Companies House documents show that a third company, Anglo Holt (Oxford), changed its registered address two weeks ago from the main West Bromwich one to a new address in Dudley.
Another source said: “A lot of people could be out of pocket over this.
“A lot of the main trades were carried out by the same firms on their jobs so I’m sure there’s a lot of bills outstanding at the moment.”
