Major contractors are looking to meet new suppliers across the West Midlands.

Subcontractors are invited to a free Meet the Buyer event in Birmingham next week to find out about upcoming work opportunities worth millions of pounds.

Buyers already signed up include Kier, Wates, Seddon and Bouygues.

Housing contractor Sanctuary Group is among the list of exhibitors and will be recruiting for contracts on its upcoming national framework which includes lighting, air conditioning and responsive maintenance services for its sheltered, student and supported housing units.

The responsive maintenance contracts on offer total £20m, with others up to £100,000 per annum individually.

Constructionline is hosting the session at Villa Park stadium on April 15 where attendees will see presentations made by procurement decision-makers from large construction clients on how local contractors can win work on their projects.

This will be followed by a discussion on industry topics and best practice.

Cheryl Wrench, client relationship manager at Constructionline, said: “Our Meet the Buyer events are designed to offer valuable introductions between local contractors, consultants and material suppliers and some of the UK’s biggest public and private sector organisations.

“Just last month, our event in Yorkshire played host to almost 450 suppliers and 30 buyers, making it the largest regional event in our history.

“Meet the Buyer events provide a fantastic opportunity to find out how to win work on major contracts and we encourage all contractors local to the West Midlands to attend this one in Birmingham.”

Kier managing director for Kier Services’ housing maintenance business, David Mawson, said:  “Kier is committed to working with local companies across all its contracts; we believe in creating a lasting legacy within the communities we serve and attending regular meet the buyer events is a great way for us to work with those who know the community best.

“This is a perfect opportunity for businesses to invest in their communities and have a say in the work being done, as well as contributing to the region’s economy, and we would urge any companies that believe they have something to offer to come along and talk to us.”

The event will run from 8:30am until 2pm and suppliers do not have to be a Constructionline member to attend.
