Sir Robert McAlpine is looking to meet local subcontractors from around Cumbria to help build a £15m education project.

Work available involves the construction of the Workington Academy, which is due to replace Stainburn School and Southfield Technology College on their existing sites.

The project includes the development of a new 92,860 sq ft, four-storey building and the refurbishment of an existing 7,340 sq ft sports hall, built on a 7.93 hectare site.

To support the work, the firm is looking to procure local subcontractors from Cumbria for all aspects of the works from groundworks through to roofing & finishing trades, with construction due to start in September.

Constructionline will be hosting the Supplier Engagement Day on July 8, at the Workington Cricket Club.

Aaron Good, client relationship manager at Constructionline, said: “This event will provide a great opportunity for local businesses to find out about work available on a large project on their doorstep.

“Often small firms may consider it difficult to gain access to projects of this scale and the event has been designed to give businesses the chance to meet with Sir Robert McAlpine decision makers to understand what is required from them before they begin bidding for work.”

Angus Stockwell, Chief Buyer for Northern & Scottish region at Sir Robert McAlpine, added: “We are committed to engaging with local subcontractors in an effort to support the economies in areas where we deliver projects of this scale.

“The event will allow us to showcase the opportunities available to businesses in the area and help us to expand our quality, local supply chain.”

The event will run from 10am until 2pm and suppliers do not have to be a Constructionline member to attend.
