Insolvency specialist BDO has taken over running the Essex-based firm, which is part of the Saudi Arabian Al-Tuwairqi Group.
Kierbeck is a major supplier of rebar to the overheated London market and ranks as the single largest supplier to the piling industry.
Around 80 jobs are understood to be under threat at the offices at Kierbeck Wharf on Barking Creek.
The seven acre site was capable of producing around 3,000 tonnes a week and acted as an import facility for rebar from Latvia, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Turkey and Belarus via Lithuania.
According to latest accounts Kierbeck Thames boasted sales of around £27m, but had been struggling to make an operating profit for several years and relied on financial support from the Al-Tuwairqi Group.
The firm counted Balfour Beatty, Bachy Solentanche, Keltbray, Skanska and Morrisroe among major customers.
