The industry charity has launched its “One day… to help our own” initiative to coincide with its 60th anniversary year.
The fund will help look after more families affected by illness, injury or fatalities on site.
And the Lighthouse Club is also looking to increase its work supporting education and training schemes to get the unemployed back into work in construction and to create health and safety innovation projects to proactively reduce accidents and promote health initiatives.
The latest drive challenges all 360,000 companies in the sector to take just one day of their year and make it “Lighthouse Day” and raise funds for the charity.
Lighthouse CEO Bill Hill said: “We want to make our 60th year a definitive one in our ongoing evolution. A year where we can say that we institutionalized a National Lighthouse Day.
“If we can reach the 360,000 companies in construction and just one per cent register for a National Lighthouse Day, who in turn raise just £500 each, then we could see the charity raise £1.5m.
“I would encourage everyone in the sector to sign up to help us reach our target.”
