Costain tops contracts league with Preston road win

Costain has topped the contracts league for work secured during February after winning the £110m Preston Northern Distributor road for Lancashire County Council.

The firm pipped Carillion to pole position in the monthly table, which signed off a major mixed-use building development worth £167m for Lambeth College in London’s Nine Elms regeneration area, according to information specialist Glenigan.

Contractor ISG, now owned by US investor Cathexis, came third in the rankings after securing a £75m shopping centre project in Greenwich for AEG.

Kier continues to dominate the ranking based on the 12-months rolling total of work won with an estimated £2.7bn haul of mostly building work.

Laing O’Rourke edged up the table this month with a £2.2bn bag of work, shadowed by Galliford Try, which joined the top three for the first time.
