The principal function of this position is to undertake elements of highway design on projects using Tensars software and to assist the Tensar Area Civil Engineers with overall delivery of projects using the designed solutoin.
The Pavement Design Engineer is also part of a larger sales team and is responsible for working closely and assisting colleagues so as to maximise potential sales opportunities in the UK.
In this role you will be required to manage the day to day coordination and review of design documentation for large, medium and small projects. You will manage the design workflow, which will include compiling relevant reporting, managing a large amount of stakeholders to whom you will have to act as the main point of contact and be able to provide direction and guidance as well as explaining the concept and the nature of the Tensar design. In this role you will lead with specification selling and be able to help the sales team defend specification designs.
Working alongside Tensars Design Manager and Highways Manager to promote schemes through a value engineering management process.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the industry with demonstrable experience in the technical support of projects and be conversant with the current UK design and technical standards that apply. Knowledge of AASHTO Pavement Design methods is a distinct advantage. Preparation of specifications and development of designs for pavement optimisation of the full pavement for both client organisations and contractors
Work independently and proactively on all aspects of pavement design, at all stages from concept and feasibility through to detailed design and contract awarded.
Prepare technical and commercial documents, maintain CRM, including reports, programmes and other documents to monitor, control and report progress of the design[s]
Report to the local Highways Team Leader and Sales Manager and liaise on a regular basis with other internal teams, clients and external contacts the progress of designs completed
Able to author competent technical reports and designs of acceptable technical and presentational quality.
Increase knowledge, and uses, of Tensars capabilities and solutions outside and into other business units if required.
Ability to market technical capability internally as well as externally to major clients within Tensar CRM.
A qualified Civil Engineer with a relevant civil engineering degree, either chartered or heading towards CEng status; you will should demonstrate recent and relevant experience in working with the design of roads and highways. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as strong computer skills are essential.
CAD experience in a consulting environment is desirable
Must be able to communicate effectively with colleagues and clients using the telephone and email.
Must be fully proficient in the use of pavement design software
Must have experience with best value and value engineeried solutions
Strong communication skills both written and verbal
Ability to work well as part of a close-knit design & sales team
Familiarity with Microsoft CRM Dynamics would be advantageous
Familiarity with ground investigation, geotechnical studies, and design of geotechnical works for road schemes that could include slopes, foundations, retaining structures, strengthened earthworks, track bed and road pavement would also be an advantage
Knowledge and experience of relevant Eurocodes and UK standards and specifications, as well as those of Network Rail and Highways England.

A degree in Civil Engineering from an institute of repute or/and university.
Minimum 3 years of experience in design of Highways.
Working experience to DMRB/ AASHTO
Good written and verbal English language communication skills.
Ability to work effectively with colleagues, seniors, team members and clients.
Experience of technical leadership for major highway projects at feasibility and detailed design stages.
Ability to fully understand, explain, present, and solve complex technical problems for technical and non-technical audiences.
Working knowledge of pavement design
Proven experience in road design, horizontal & vertical geometry, road alignment, pavement build-up, setting out, cross sections, long sections, ground modelling, excavation level, formation level, finished level, cut/ fill, earthwork, contours
Valid UK driving license. Willing to travel to construction sites and client offices within the UK and to occasionally undertake short assignments into Ireland.
