The University has now started the search for a firm to design and build the planned free school and sixth form college for 1,150 pupils.
The purpose-built school will be located at the University’s Selly Oak site, close to the main Edgbaston campus and a wide range of University facilities.
The plans break new ground as the first free school and sixth form college run by a university.
It will also be one of the first university training schools, boasting better teacher student ratios from embedded trainee teachers from the university.
Interested firms have until 27 July to submit PQQs ahead of five firms being selected to submit tenders in mid August.
Procurement bosses at the University hope to start construction early next year, finishing the school in Spring 2015.
The University of Birmingham School will take in pupils to years 7 and 12 in September 2015, growing to full capacity of 1,150 over 5 years.
