The regeneration of a two acre site on Walmgate will create 200 construction jobs and provide new modern offices for The Press as well as deliver accommodation for York’s growing student population.
Enabling work will start within weeks to deliver 58 purpose-built student flats and 303 studio apartments over the next two years.
S Harrison design manager, Chris Hale, said: “The scheme sees an underutilised brownfield site redeveloped to deliver much-needed student accommodation for the city’s growing student population. It will free up family homes in the city for use by York families, in line with the council’s policy.
The scheme, which also includes the redevelopment of the Wards warehouse, creates a new frontage on Walmgate with new 6500 sq ft Press offices fronting onto Walmgate and Hurst’s Yard.
