Leeds City Council approved outline consent for 375,000 sq ft of offices spread over three, eight-storey buildings, restaurant and leisure space as well as a 500 space car park.
Town Centre Securities will now prepare a reserved matters application for No.2 Whitehall Riverside, the largest of the three office buildings at 207,000 sq ft.
Edward Ziff, Chairman and Chief Executive of Town Centre Securities PLC, said: “It is widely acknowledged that at present there is little or no available Grade A stock to meet occupiers’ requirements for large floor-plates and we are now able to commit to that through bringing our plans to life.”
Last week the developer also revealed plans to invest £20m in overhauling the 1960s Merrion House building, after securing Leeds’ biggest City Centre office deal in over two decades with the council.
Property giant Hammerson has also just gained detailed planning for its £130m Victoria Gate shopping centre scheme in Leeds.
The retail developer has shortlisted Laing O’Rourke, Sir Robert McAlpine and Vinci for the £130m phase one construction job, which is now on course to start in Spring 2014.
Leeds University is also pressing ahead with construction of a £16m library, which Shepherd will build and Miller Construction’s job to build a new school of Geography.
