More than 500 construction leaders will gather at a conference in London later this month to help shape the future of the industry.

Talk Construction is being organised by the Chartered Institute of Building and will feature the Government’s Chief Construction Adviser Peter Hansford as key speaker

Hansford will spell out the industrial strategy for construction and explain how the Government intends to support key areas such as the supply chain and SMEs and how companies can gain access to essential finance.

Talk Construction will be chaired by broadcaster Krishnan Guru-Murthy and offers a platform for leaders from the industry and Government to come together to analyse, discuss and plan the future.

Talk Construction is also the first event of its kind in the sector to be research-led, not profit-based and will also include keynote speeches from some of Britain’s leading construction professionals.

The themes of the ground-breaking conference will cover all of the major issues currently affecting the construction industry.

Speakers include:

Andrew Wyllie, Costain Group Chief Executive will talk about the drive to recovery and future competitiveness

Richard Threlfall from KPMG will look at attracting investment

David Philp from Mace Group, will discuss the challenges to be faced by embracing BIM technology

Judy Lowe from CITB will focus on overcoming challenges with leadership and skills gaps.

The event is sponsored by Autodesk, Asite, Celotex, Hays, Velux Modular Skylights, Bauder, CSCS and Lafarge Tarmac.

Chris Blythe, chief executive of the CIOB, said: “Talk Construction is about looking at new ways to work with the Government to build the foundations for competitiveness, investment and growth.

“With backing from innovative and forward-thinking companies across the breadth of the industry, we can drive the recovery that will help to build our way out of the recession.”
