The contractor is working on a £16.3m deal to build the new five-star Gainsborough Hotel.

The crane toppled after delivering the generator and came to rest on the nearby Lamb and Lion pub.

Ben Howlett, 29, was drinking in the pub when it happened.

He told the Bath Chronicle: “It is crazy. I was in the pub and heard a crash.

“It is not something you expect when you go out for a quiet drink.”

Galliford Try said:“At approximately 12.15pm on Wednesday, an incident occurred involving a delivery vehicle to the Gainsborough Hotel site in Lower Borough Walls.

“No injuries have been caused by the incident and the site has been made secure.

“Investigations are already under way and as a result it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
