Kier took in £120m of work just edging Sir Robert McAlpine into second place even after it sailed off with a £60m job with Port of Tyne Authority to build storage facilities.
Costain brought in most civils work last month, securing six contracts worth a total of £87.5m.
Skanska gave it a close run after taking a £50m infrastructure contact with University of Cambridge for its £1bn North East campus and housing scheme.
Among the other notable contract wins for February, developer Derwent signed a deal with Brookfield to start its £102m White Collar Office project in Old Street, London.
And a joint venture between Buckingham Group and Heron Bros was confirmed as winners of the £70m contract to build a stadium in Belfast for the Gaelic Athletic Association.
