Contractor Kier has secured the job to transform the grade II Victorian shed into a concept supermarket store, with a 2,300 sq ft cookery school and a 30,000 sq ft events space.
The Midland Goods Shed and the East Handyside Canopy was originally built in 1850 by the Great Northern Railway as the temporary passenger railway station while the original King’s Cross station was under construction.
Work on the project can now get underway with completion scheduled for 2015.
Architect Bennetts Associates has drawn up plans to restore and convert the building and structure.
