The contractor has been carrying out site preparation work for One The Square with main construction scheduled to start next February and complete by the end of 2016.
One The Square will comprise 129,295 sq ft of Grade A office space and 13,379 sq ft of retail and is part of Brookgate’s CB1 masterplan to transform the city’s gateway.
Wates will be working alongside project architects, Pringle Brandon Perkins+Will, building services and sustainability consultant, Hilson Moran and structural engineers Mott MacDonald.
The scheme will be built alongside Abellio Greater Anglia’s work to redesign Cambridge train station, including an enlarged ticket hall and improved customer service facilities.
Phil Shortman, Business Unit Director, Wates Construction, Northern Home Counties & East said: “The ongoing development of Cambridge city centre is an incredible achievement and Wates is proud to be playing such a key part in the delivery of the CB1 masterplan.”
Sven Topel, Chief Executive of Brookgate said: “We are very excited to have reached this next stage of the masterplan.
“One the Square is a key element of CB1 as it not only delivers a new office and leisure space at the main gateway to the city but also provides public realm and transport improvements, which will create a buzzing hub around the train station.”
