The £73m project scheme has been caught up in the Building Safety Regulator logjam for nearly a year.

A Unite spokesman said: “It’s been a long journey to get here, so we’re very pleased to finally have approval to move forward.”

Approval means builder RG Group can soon start construction of the delayed student project, located close to Unite’s  600-bed Marsh Mills site, on Feeder Road.

The new development will provide 4,500 sq ft of affordable workspace and will be BREEAM Excellent with EPC Ratings of A across the scheme.

Unite also revealed it has progressed through planning on a 511-bed student accommodation property in south London.

The firm said taking into account Gateway clearance time it hoped The Kennington Lane development in Lambeth would open in time for the start of the 2029/30 academic year.

The 19,000sq m scheme will replace a Jewsons builders’ merchant in Kennington with a 16-storey main building and adjacent lower rise blocks

The mixed-use scheme, designed by AHMM architects, will also include community and light industrial space.

Unite Students’ development pipeline now stands at 10,000 beds for delivery over the next five years, with a total planned investment of £1.9 billion.
