Development partnership ECF has submitted proposals alongside Salford City Council and the University of Salford to transform the building on the A6 next to Irwell Place Car Park.

The scheme sits within the wider 240-acre Crescent Salford regeneration programme reshaping this stretch of the city.

Originally built as headquarters for the Amalgamated Union of Engineering Workers before joining the university campus in the 1970s, Faraday House has stood empty for several years.

Under the plans it would be retained and overhauled to deliver 3,500 sq m of flexible workspace for the university’s professional services teams.

Planned overhaul

The refurbishment forms the next phase of the university’s Campus Connectivity Plan, aimed at upgrading research, teaching and public spaces.

Designs by PRP, with interiors by OBI and landscape input from Planit, include new green space, cycle storage and an accessible entrance to create a more inclusive working environment.

If approved, work is due to start before the Summer with completion targeted for winter 2027.
