Balfour Beatty has confirmed a raft of leadership changes to “strengthen customer focus, improve project performance and drive greater efficiencies”.

The moves bring together the group’s capabilities across UK transport, energy and defence  in a bid to enable “faster, more joined-up delivery of major infrastructure programmes and closer alignment with critical national infrastructure priorities.”

UK Defence, Power & Regional Infrastructure, led by Divisional CEO Nick Crossfield, combines UK regional civils, the Scottish construction business, UK buildings and the UK power transmission and  distribution business to create a more integrated offering across electricity networks, defence infrastructure and regional programmes.

UK Energy & Major Projects, led by Divisional CEO Phil Clifton, brings together the delivery of large, complex infrastructure with major energy programmes including Hinkley Point C and Net Zero Teesside, positioning the business for opportunities such as Small Modular Reactors and new reservoirs.

UK Transport brings together UK Rail, UK Highways and Balfour Beatty Living Places into a single, connected transport business portfolio. Recruitment for a Divisional CEO is underway.

Major alliances and joint ventures – including HS2, Sizewell C and Gammon – will continue under Divisional CEO Steve Tarr, maintaining focus on the delivery of complex programmes delivered alongside long-standing partners.

Balfour is also strengthening its Group Executive Committee with two new roles – a Chief Strategy Officer and Group Business Services Director, to enhance strategic focus, productivity and value creation.

Philip Hoare, Group Chief Executive, said: “These changes sharpen our focus on our customers and our core growth markets. By bringing our capabilities together in this way, we are building a more connected, agile business – better placed to deliver critical infrastructure and consistent value for our customers, partners and shareholders.

“At the same time, we are creating clearer opportunities for our 26,000 colleagues to grow and play their part in shaping our future.”
