Betting Spy: Kung Fu Rooney looks back to his best

When strikers are going through a bad patch most of the problems are dismissed as being “in their head”.

Wayne Rooney is a little bit different – his fluctuations in form seem determined by what’s actually on his head.

Last summer Wazza disappointed at the Euros following his latest hair transplant

And at the start of this season he looked disinterested and sluggish.

But the last few games have seen a turnaround in form now Rooney is sporting a bizarre-looking headband to protect a gash in his forehead.

The latest look seems to have been modelled on seventies singing legend Carl Douglas and his Number One hit Kung Fu Fighting.

It may look daft, but if Rooney keeps scoring expect the headband to become a permanent fixture.

Perhaps Sam Allardyce could adopt the tactic at West Ham as we struggle to score goals in the absence of Andy Carroll.

I wouldn’t mind seeing the team coming out in top hats, boaters or balaclavas as long as it helped them put the ball in the back of the net.

The Hammers are playing like they are wearing blindfolds once they cross the half way line.

I fear the main problem is that Big Sam hasn’t had the heart to tell everyone else that Big Andy is not playing.

High balls are still being hoisted up front to be hopefully met by the Geordie colossus.

Unfortunately his replacement Modibo Maiga is a slight fella from Mali who doesn’t know whether to be scared of the defenders in front of him or those launching an aerial bombardment from behind.

That lack of attacking threat leads us to the main bet of the weekend – Everton to win away at West Ham at 7/5.

It pains me to type this, but I can’t see West Ham scoring and Everton just look a stronger side all round the park.

The Manchester derby is the big game of the weekend and United look over-priced to me at 23/10.

Here’s to Wayne and his headband chopping down their city rivals and earning us a few quid.
