The 43-storey building in Elephant & Castle, known as Strata SE1, had been due to receive its first residents in early June but in an update to buyers Brookfield Europe director Justin Black told them work will not be completed in time to meet its May deadline.
In the update seen by the Enquirer, Black writes: “We expect Strata SE1 to operate as a quality residence from day one. It is likely that some aspects of the development (eg landscaping) will be 95% rather than 100% complete by early May.
“Consequently we have revised the completion and occupation strategy to accommodate taking control from the contractor early June.
“The first completion notice is now expected to be issued mid June with the first legal completion occurring on 5 July.”
Black said the first 36 floors are virtually complete while 95% of the sloping glass panels at the top of the building have been installed.
The project is Brookfield’s first major development in the UK since completing the scheme to rebuild Wembley stadium.
Brookfield began work on the tower back in December 2007 with the scheme featuring a total of 408 flats including nearly 100 affordable units.
Nicknamed the Electric Razor by locals, it will be the tallest residential tower in central London and will feature three wind turbines which are designed to contribute 8% of the building’s total energy consumption.
