Angus Council is believed to have drawn-up a shortlist for the scheme and the six firms will be invited to submit bids for the job.
The firms in the hunt are Morrison Construction, Muirfield Contracts, Mansell Construction Services, Ogilvie Construction, Graham Construction and Morgan Ashurst .
Planning permission was granted for the scheme in January with the job due to be completed by 2012. The council’s corporate services committee is expected to approve the shortlist of bidders tomorrow.
The project has caused controversy locally with rival councillors claiming it is too expensive and will lead to a shortfall of funding for other services in the area.
