The primary care facilities will offer a range of medical services as part of a new wave of health and social care centres opening up for NHS patients across the country under the NHS Local Improvement Finance Trust (LIFT) public private partnerships.
The £5.7m Hoyland Primary Care Centre in High Street, Southgate, will accommodate a GP practice, library and pharmacy, and extensive facilities for district nursing, adult and social services.
Morgan Ashurst will demolish an existing library, public house and factory to make way for the new facilities. The centre is due to be completed in October 2011.
At Great Houghton Primary Care Centre in Oak Haven Avenue, Great Houghton, Morgan Ashurst will demolish an existing doctor’s surgery and replace it with a new £1.1 million single-storey GP practice. The project is due to be completed in January 2011.
The £3.7m New Lodge Primary Care Centre in Wakefield Road, Athersley, will provide three GP practices, a minor surgery suite and pharmacy. Work on the new centre is set to be completed in February 2011.
At Darton Primary Care Centre in Churchfield Lane, Darton, the new £2.8m two-storey building will house a physiotherapy suite and extensive facilities for children’s and social services.
