The new £120m National Arena, which is due to host the international broadcasting centre in 2014, had been relying on developer Elphinstone to part finance the project by building 1,500 homes alongside it.
Presently three firms – Balfour Beatty, Bovis Lend Lease and Sir Robert McAlpine – are in the race to take the prestigious job.
