Firm wanted to smash £7.5m hole in Brum arcade

Network Rail is looking for a demolition contractor to smash a huge hole through the Pallasades Shopping Centre above Birmingham’s New Street Station.

The £7.5m contract will make way for a new atrium at the shopping centre which is being redeveloped as part of the Birmingham Gateway Project.

The winning contractor will have to form a 100 metre x 50 metre hole through the shopping centre which involves removing 4,000 cubic metres of existing concrete slab.
