The Tesco timber home, which can only be ordered online, boasts five rooms and large amounts of roof storage space.
Keen DIYers will need to brush up on basic groundwork skills as Tesco recommends compacted gravel or concrete foundations for the log cabin. After that you need a ladder, screwdriver, mallet and tape measure.
The budget Tesco log cabin looks more little house on the back-garden prairie than solution to the housing crisis.
In fact, Tesco has launched the Helsinki home to offer householders a little more urban space for a gym, office or teenage clubroom.
A Tesco spokesman said: “Customers lifestyles mean demand for extra space at home just keeps growing.
“At £9,999, we don’t expect our Tesco Direct log cabin to be an impulse purchase but it is certainly less hassle and less costly than moving house or building an extension.”
Tesco says the Helsinki home is manufactured from high-grade Scandinavian 44mm tongue and groove boards. It comes with eight double-glazed windows, French doors and shingle roofing.
Upgrades offer guttering, laminate flooring and even underfloor heating.
Builders specialising in home extensions had better beware.
