Institute bosses are calling on construction professionals to promote their work and opinions on the industry via the social networking service.
Michael Brown CIOB Deputy Chief Executive said: “We want as many people as possible working in the built environment to tweet and let us know what they’re doing, what project they’re working on and the views they have on the industry.
“The aim is to generate a global snapshot of the breadth of activity across the built environment. Showcasing what a hugely influential, widespread, varied and vital industry construction is to the global economy and in delivering a sustainable future.
“Most people won’t realise that in the UK alone more than 3 million people are employed in construction, and on the global stage this is a US$4.6 trillion industry that contributes 10 percent of global GDP.”
If you work in construction the CIOB invites you to take part on the 14 March by hash-tagging #buildingsomethingbig, or #bsb on Twitter with your news and thoughts about the industry.
The Building Something Big campaign is part of the CIOB’s plan to raise the public profile of the industry and challenge people’s preconceptions about construction.
This event is open to anyone involved in the built environment. The Institute is hoping to attract construction workers, clients, government ministers, industry leaders, educationalists and communication teams from across the sector to take part.
People are encouraged not just to tweet messages but to upload their pictures and videos as well. An Amazon Kindle will be awarded for the best tweet of the day.
