£360m north east framework seeks 10% savings

Aaron Morby 13 years ago

Gateshead Council has started the roll-out of a £90m a year framework covering new build work in the north east.

The North East Improvement and Efficiency Partnership is inviting bids from firms to join a series of framework agreements covering construction, repairs and consultancy across three regions: Northumberland and Tyne & Wear; Durham and Tees Valley; and Gateshead over the coming months.

The lead councils have put Gateshead-based North Eastern Purchasing Organisation in charge of the procurement of the four-year framework.

The council’s hope to make big savings and reduce the time to market for appointing contractors and estimate they will save £35m over the four-year term on new building work in the region.

North Tyneside Council is currently tendering the consultancy agreement, accounting for an annual spend of around £3m.

The framework will come into operation in the Autumn.
