The seven acre site was once used by Eastfield High School as playing fields but has be unused for over 15 years.
The £26m scheme situated on Cedars Avenue in Mitcham will provide 169 new home – 72 homes built for private sale, with a further 64 for shared ownership and 33 for affordable rent.
Over four acres of the site will be retained as a new park at the heart of the development. All properties will be built to meet the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4.
Most of the homes are one, two or three-bedroom apartments, with eight, four-bedroom terraced townhouses for affordable rent.
Housed in seven low rise buildings, the apartments enjoy views over a new four-acre park in the heart of the development, which will include children’s play area and ‘green’ outdoor gym.
The first homes for occupation are expected to be ready by December 2011 with the whole development completed by 2013.
