The mixed-use scheme will see the local firm build 386 new homes and commercial premises on the disused brownfield site bordering Stoke Quay.

Demolition of a former builders’ merchant and several industrial units on the site will start later this month.

County archaeologists will then have the opportunity to get onto the job to survey the triangular-shaped site and record evidence of Ipswich’s historical past.

The new homes will be built upon a ground floor concrete podium deck, which spans the entire site, with a basement providing 212 car parking spaces

The mixed tenure scheme features townhouses, flats and extra-care supported accommodation, alongside 1,000 sq m of commercial accommodation.

Three blocks of flats will be built on the site as well as 25 terraced townhouses, ranging in size from three to five bedrooms.

Bernard Clarke, managing director of ISG Jackson, said: “Our appointment to the initial phase of this major regeneration scheme marks a return to the docklands area of Ipswich.

Jackson previously built the extension of the Salthouse Harbour Hotel and the Neptune Marina mixed-use development.
