North Lanarkshire Council plans to build between 250 and 350 new social housing units on various sites across the region over the duration of the four-year framework agreement.
The council said it plans to double the number of houses it plans to build over the next few years.
A key part of the North Lanarkshire house building programme will see the 17-storey Glencairn Tower block demolished later this year to make way for new low-rise affordable homes.
The contract for demolition has been awarded to Technical Demolition Services. The contractor is now on site and internal fixtures and fittings are being removed in advance of the demolition.
Work building new affordable housing will start once the site is cleared by the start of 2012.
Firms have until 11 July to prequalify on the Public Contracts Scotland website http://www.publiccontractsscotland.gov.uk/Search/show/Search_View.aspx?ID=MAY092290
