Local firms turned up in a force this week at a ‘Meet the Contractor’ event designed to highlight opportunities during construction of the new 12,000 seater stadium.
Rotherham chairman Tony Stewart said: “We have nominated the main contractor, and we now wanted to give local contractors a slice of the action. It’s fantastic to see such a wide range of businesses taking the time to find out more about how they can get involved in the community stadium.”
Andrew Kemp, Construction Director at GMI said: “The team are committed to working collaboratively with local supply chains where ever possible and are so pleased with the response we’ve had so far.
“It’s all about engaging with people and getting the best of what’s on offer to benefit all parties involved.”
One subcontractor at the event said: “I just wanted to thank GMI for the excellent presentation and informative information that was given at the event to local subcontractors; how very refreshing, I wish all main contractors would adopt this approach.”
Groundworks on the site are due to start any day with the main stadium construction taking place this summer ready for completion by the 2012/13 season.
