Contractors now account for almost a third of the top 30 green companies, with Skanska being crowned greenest firm in the Sunday Times Best Green Companies of 2011.
Lead Lease’s former Bovis operation came next highest, ranked sixth overall, with Carillion taking third place in the contractors’ rankings with a performance that placed it as the tenth greenest company in Britain.
The Sunday Times league table is based on two different surveys.
The employer survey covers among other things environmental management policies, environmental training, energy consumption, waste production and recycling.
This accounts for 70% of the final score. The second part is an employee survey where staff rate 52 statements from “strongly agree” to “strongly disagree”.
