The contract will involve upgrading and realigning an existing line, a new terminal and construction of a new overbridge and widening of an underbridge, a new signalling system and mechanical and electrical work.
The job is a construction only contract based on designs already prepared for the Thames Gateway Port and is understood to be worth more than £60m.
The port is just 25 miles from London on the former Shell Haven oil refinery location at Stanford-le-Hope on the north bank of the Thames.
As well as the new port London Gateway has outline planning permission for over 9 million square feet for distribution and manufacturing buildings on the new site.

Dredging to reclaim land and create the new deep water port to handle super containers started a year ago.
The port, which will be one of the most automated and efficient in the world, will add an additional 3.5m containers to the UK’s port capacity.
By building a huge logistics centre next to the new port, transport planners predict 65m road miles will be saved every year.
This is equivalent to 2,000 trucks per day off the national road network, equal to 148,000 tonnes of CO2 saved every year.
Construction Progress
Amongst the tools being utilised during the massive engineering and construction project is a huge vibro-compaction probe which is used to shake the ground to make it settle.
The probe shakes the newly-laid ground which has been created from dredging the Thames Estuary, enabling the material to be compacted and helping the engineering process.
