The first phase of the College’s master plan to consolidate its existing facilities across St Albans onto its Smallford Campus will see ISG build a combined teaching block and sports hall at the 260 acre parkland site.
A two-storey, L-shaped steel frame structure will house teaching accommodation for Art, Fashion and Design departments down one axis, with the other axis incorporating a new sports hall with capacity for eight badminton courts and a fitness gym.
The scheme will include a Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS) with a series of swales and ponds that regulate waste water discharge and provide a wildlife habitat to enhance biodiversity across the site.
The project also sees ISG Jackson create two artificial flood lit sports pitches adjacent to the new building for College and wider community usage.
Work is due to commence in August with completion scheduled for early autumn 2012.
