Betting Spy: Klitschko and Haye to both hit the canvas

Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting once sang that well known boxing fan Elton John.

And how right he was as fight fans everywhere will turn their attention to the Imtech Arena in Hamburg, Germany this weekend for the world heavyweight showdown between our very own David Haye and Ukranian giant Wladimir Klitschko.

Now this promises to be the biggest East versus West fight since Sylvester Stallone overcame a massive age, height, weight and possibly acting disadvantage to defeat Dolph Lundgren in Rocky IV.

And I’m using the antics of Rocky Balboa and Ivan Drago as the inspiration for a bit of an outside punt to hopefully make a few bob from Saturday’s showdown.

Our celluloid warriors both hit the canvas during a wildly improbable tear-up at the climax of the film which saw Stallone clinch the title before ending the cold war in one of cinema’s more bizarre speeches.

Now I’m not comparing actors to finely trained boxers. But I can see both Haye and Klitschko hitting the floor during a fight which promises fireworks from the first round.

Haye is not a natural heavyweight and the force and speed of Klitschko’s shots could stun him and lead to a touchdown on the canvas.

My mind keeps going back to how tentative Haye looked against Audley Harrision because of his alleged power – until he realised how bad Harrison was shortly before Trading Standards checked his boxing licence.

Klitschko has a lovely jab but his under rated right hook could be the punch that sends Haye to the floor.

But I think he’ll get up, and the Ukranian could be vulnerable to an all-out assault from our man who has by far the better natural fighting instincts.

Haye might go all-out at some stage and that could see Klitschko touchdown because his chin certainly isn’t the hardest part of his body.

Let’s go for an all out war and grab Paddy Power’s offer of 9/2 that both fighters are knocked down at some stage during the night.

And if I’m pushed for a winner I’d plump for Klitschko to win by knockout at 5/4.

The other bonus for boxing fans is that this scrap is in Europe so it should get under way about 11pm.

Usually the big fights in Vegas don’t start until five in the morning here so I’m crawling on the floor long before the first bell has even sounded.
