The shopping centre specialist, which owns 14 shopping centres in the UK, has dismissed concerns about a retail slowdown and detailed plans for four major revamp projects at existing sites.
The firm said the future of large out-of-town and town centre retailing centres was still sound despite signs of high street spending being hit by the economic downturn.
- £50m revamp of the recently-acquired Trafford Centre. This includes a £30m plan to enclose Barton Square under glass roofing, which already has council approval.
- At Lakeside in Essex, the retail developer will submit planning for a 360,000 sq ft extension later in the year. The £160m expansion plan includes a 160,000 sq ft department store and around 40 new shops and restaurants.
- In Nottingham, CSC plans to spend £250m on an major extension to the Victoria Centre. A planning application for the 500,000 sq ft extension was submitted in June in the hope of gaining consent at the end of the year. Construction is due to start in 2013.
- The firm has also gained planning for MetrOasis at the Gateshead Metrocentre for a 15,000 sq ft terrace of new retail and catering.
