The men were working on the roof above McDonald’s on Victoria Street when the arm of their cherry-picker touched the side of the building and safety equipment kicked in, immobilising the vehicle.
Engineers from hirer Hird arrived to assist but could not over-ride the system.
Humberside Fire And Rescue Service were called and crews arrived with a cherry-picker of their own to rescue the men who were stranded for two-and-half hours.
One of them told This is Grimsby : “It was all very routine until the cherry-picker stopped working. All we could do was keep our heads out of the sun, but it’s a relief to be down.”
