The 50-year-old was airlifted to hospital in London after the incident at the new Biffa waste processing centre at Brockhurst Wood in Horsham.
He is still in hospital following the incident last Friday.
Biffa is working with turnkey contractor M+W Group on the project which is part of a £1bn deal with West Sussex County Council to treat waste in the area for the next 25 years.
Shaun Davis, group director of safety, health and environment at Biffa, told the Brighton Argus: “An incident took place at the Brookhurst Wood site which resulted in a man being seriously injured.
“He is currently in hospital in a stable condition.
“Biffa would like to offer its support to his family at this difficult time.”
