Forming part of the multi-million pound Waterside regeneration project, the new plans would see the existing Nunn Mills Road extended and upgraded, and bridges built over the River Nene and the former Northampton-to-Bedford railway line in Far Cotton.
The 1.6km road will open up development land near the former Avon headquarters, the old Nunn Mills power station site and a former landfill site in Ransome Road.
Planning permission has already been granted to build 800 houses in Ransome Road and 1,250 homes on the site of Avon’s old headquarters.
Waterside development plans in Northampton
WNDC’s Director of Regeneration and Development, Chris Garden said: “The Nunn Mills development road is part of a bigger picture for Northampton’s waterside area.
Along with the infrastructure improvements already underway, it will support the transformation of derelict land into a thriving location for people to live, work and invest.”
The Avon and Nunn Mills sites are also part of Northampton’s new Enterprise Zone, which was announced by government earlier this month.
Garden added: “By using our specialist development and investment powers, we are aiming to establish Northampton’s waterside area as a leading business location.”
