The London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham is being asked to decide on the regeneration project after Westfield submitted an outline application for redeveloping land north of its existing flagship shopping centre in White City.
If the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham approves the planning application, Westfield will begin the detailed design of the development next year, with construction unlikely to start before 2014.
The £1bn regeneration masterplan seeks to redevelop a nine hectare site to the north of its existing flagship shopping centre in White City.
Westfield plans to create, on a either side of Ariel Way a new pedestrian quarter that will include around 1,600 new homes, shops and a new department store.
Existing traders around Shepherd’s Bush are expected to benefit from the increase in footfall.
The project has already received the backing of the local business community and a majority of local residents who gave written feedback at a recent public exhibition.
Frank Wingate, Chief Executive of West London Business said: “As the representative body for the business community in this part of London, we fully support Westfield’s latest proposals within the White City Opportunity Area.
“The plans will deliver 2,500 much-needed new jobs and further investment to West London, bringing more customers to other businesses in Hammersmith and Fulham.”
Duncan Bower, Director of Development and Asset Management said: “We have already received a considerable amount of support for the plans and the submission is an important step in bringing more jobs, homes and facilities to the local community.
“We are keen to progress this project and make these jobs a reality for as many local people as we can.”
