£300m South West Wales framework winners

Eleven contractors have won a place on the framework for construction of schools and other public buildings in South West Wales.

The South West Wales Regional Contractors Framework is the last of three four-year agreements set up in Wales, which were together billed as worth up to £1bn.

Earlier this year the winners of the £400m South East framework known as SEWCAP and winners of a similar North West Wales agreement were named.

Carillion and Laing O’Rourke have come up trumps on the new procurement set-up after winning places on the major project elements of all three regions.

The three agreements form part of Wales’ 21st Century Schools Programme. This was expected to deliver a much-needed work boost for contractors until the Welsh Government admitted it was being forced to scale-back its schools programme in the face of deepening spending cuts.

Now it is anybody’s guess as to how much work will be allocated through the agreements.

Welsh schools are currently resubmitting bids for funding, which will be rescheduled over a longer programme plan.
