The university is looking for a contractor or specialist student accommodation firm to build 2,000 bedrooms on the Peel Park campus over two phases.
Outline planning approval was granted last month, including under croft car parking.
In addition, full planning approval has been granted for the carrying out of both public realm improvement works and improvements to existing pedestrian and highway works.
It is intended that the selected residences partner will obtain detailed consent for the buildings together with the university.
Phase one will comprises 1,300 bedrooms to replace existing accommodation at Castle Irwell.
Construction of the next phase has been left open as it is interlinked with the proposed development of new sports facilities.
Salford will grant a leasehold interest of up to 60 years and is seeking to retain a reversionary interest in the land.
The arrangements with the successful bidder should minimise or remove any university funding and include the delivery of the public realm improvement works.
Further information is available in the PQQ and the Memorandum of Information, which will be issued to applicants expressing an interest in the project.
